Iskander truly strives to make the class engaging, and his efforts really shine in how he tailors the material to the students. INST327 was one of the classes I was most nervous about this semester, but it ended up being my favorite and strongest. One of the highlights was the hands-on project where we created and worked with a song database using our favorite music—such a fun and personal way to learn! He is also very flexible, offering generous extra credit opportunities and adapting due dates when necessary. The ELMS page is a treasure trove of resources, from his instructional videos to code examples, making it easy to follow along. The material is closely aligned with the textbook, and I found that simply skimming the chapter summaries and focusing on the coding syntax helped me stay on track. Labs were laid-back, with base code provided, so it was mostly a matter of working through it. The semester-long project was straightforward—if you manage your time well, it’s not too difficult. I appreciated that there’s no final exam; instead, the group project, where we chose a CSV dataset and turned it into a database, served as a great learning experience. The only tricky part was working with views and functions, but even that was manageable. Finally, the in-class challenges were a fun touch, with rewards like extending assignments or making classes hybrid. Overall, I think Iskander is a chill and supportive instructor, and his approach made this class a great experience!
