Professor Hassan is kind of nonexistent in terms of this course. It's completely online and the TA is doing most of if not all of the work while the course is in session. The course is comprised of weekly modules where you'll have to read about different ways coding is used in journalism, which you'll take a short 4-question quiz on each week (they're super easy). Then you'll have a few fairly straightforward coding lessons that give you hints if needed. You'll also have a weekly survey on how the lesson impacts your career decisions which takes like 5 seconds. Most of the weight in the class comes from discussion posts, where you'll have to write 250 words about an article that represents the skill/job for that week (ex: web design, data reporter, etc). I would recommend this course just because it's asynchronous, but the professor really is not involved at all. |

Professor is good and nothing against him, I just dislike the course. Nothing is hard, this class just feels like a chore and waste of time for journalism majors. This should not be a required course as all it does is serve as and introduction to coding languages, I believe that journalism majors should only have to take this as an elective if they're interested in computer science. But alas, that is not the case |

This class is rlly easy. It’s only half a semester and the professor does try to show you a different side of journalism. The main chunk of work is on code academy so even if you’ve never done coding before you’ll get through it. |

I really enjoyed this class and found the weekly modules very interesting. I was always happy doing the weekly modules but the actual coding was a little boring to me because I don't enjoy coding. The final project is also very easy. Overall, it's a very easy class! |

Prof. Hassan is ok. He does his best to make the class interesting in the weekly modules by telling us what the career paths are we could take based on the information, but the class still felt like a chore instead of something I enjoyed. I think that's down to the asynchronous nature of the class - if you're interested in coding, you'll enjoy the class, otherwise you won't. |
