This class is a lot more work than you would expect. Assignments due almost every day, sometimes up to 4 or 5 assignments a day. A lot more hands-on than the Testudo description makes it seem like. The “discussion” is a practical where you have various coaching assignments, both individual and group. The latter half of the class is built around group work, so don’t take this class if you hate group projects. The coaching sessions are graded very harshly even though he makes the first sessions seem like a trial run. They are also weighted very heavily compared to other assignments so not doing that well on them will absolutely tank your grade. My class was mostly student-athletes, and they had an advantage because they could coach their own sports. If you specialize in one or two specific sports you will get stuck coaching a random sport you have no experience in and you will struggle. Class was mostly male, and as one of the only females, I felt overlooked and excluded at times. Professor made an effort to learn the student-athletes’ names and then eventually got around to learning the other guys’ names. The girls’ names were learned last, despite there only being 5 in the whole class. Many of the assignments are made up of online modules that you have to pay extra for. I spent almost $200 on course materials for this class. Dr. Jay is passionate and knowledgeable about the subjects of this class but he takes a very hardcore approach to teaching them and does not create the most inclusive environment.

I thought this was going to be an east gen ed but it was the opposite. there us so much work for this class and he grades very harshly. I also did not have a great experience with him as one of the only girls in the class and he made that known and singled me out for a lot of things (saying I do not know anything about sports) which is very ridiculous. I do not recommend this class what so ever and honestly would avoid taking him for any class.

Contrary to popular belief, KNES246 is NOT an easy "A," nor is it an easy class. The description of the class that you will see on Testudo is not at all reflective of the course itself. While I think that Prof. Goldstein is a very nice person with positive intentions, he assigns way too much work for a class that should be easy. On paper, the class looks like a lot of fun, and it could be — you go to the gymnasium and demonstrate skills to practice coaching sometimes and participate in some fun activities about sports. But in reality, you'll find yourself waking up for an 8 a.m. class three times a week so that you can do a lot of annoying busy work and an extraordinary amount of homework — plenty of which are online modules that you have to pay for.
