As a teacher he is very knowledgeable about the content but I think this class just has unnecessarily too many definitions that he wants us to memorize. Lab is pretty chill as long as you do your work you should be fine but make sure to double check your TA's feedback on grading because they could make errors and cost you points. There's 2 midterms which weren't bad but you have to study. His final is cumulative and was probably the longest exam I've ever taken in my life. Make sure you do the extra credit cuz it helps you bump your grade a bit. He doesn't curve tests or your final grade believe me when I say this I was 0.5 points away from an A- but he wouldn't curve. |

Still have to take the final but not sure I can squeeze out an A. Dr. Gentili is very kind and a good professor! The labs are fun and the assignments are reasonable. My TA Hunter was pretty cool as well. Very clear about grading and requirements. His voice is kind of easy to drown out during lecture unfortunately, especially given the thick accent but he's a cool guy. Exams are fair and consist of T/F (correct false term), multiple choice, free answer. The free answer are usually pretty easy, or they're math based. Gentili wants you to do well. Only things I didn't like were he sometimes cold called in class, and there's also blanks on some of the slides to be filled in during lecture. Just as a form of attendance I guess, not a big deal and I didn't mind being in his lecture. |

This class was alright. It was much harder than any other KNES class I have taken but that was mostly due to the amount of content we had to fit in to the semester. Grades took an insanely long time to get back. There were lab reports we submitted in October that were getting graded the day before the final exam. I did well in the class but that was purely due to my own studying, following along in lecture was really hard for me because the topics just did not make sense. Make sure you do the extra credit, it's worth a lot when it comes to the final grade. There were 2 midterm exams and 1 cumulative final exam. They were made up of multiple choice, true/false where you corrected the false term, and free response. The exam averages tended to be low 70s and normally took the entire class period, especially the final (I think a handful of people ended up not finishing). The lab portion was not that bad. There would be a short lecture and then an in-class experiment before lab was dismissed, we normally got out 30 minutes early. The lab reports would be due each week and didn't take too long if you're good at excel. The labs are heavily scrutinized so don't expect them to be easy grade buffers. |
