I took LING200 with Dr. Antonisse and I really liked her, so I was shocked when I started to not enjoy taking Phonology I with her. I took Syntax I with Dr. Bleam the semester prior, and it was clear to me that Dr. Bleam knew a lot about syntax and was a syntactician at heart, and she was always constructive, open to debating new ideas, and would always explain very well why we did things the way we did, and was always consistent and there was fluidity in the course. I felt that there was none of this with Phonology I with Dr. Antonisse. For someone teaching a class in Phonology, sometimes it seemed that she really didn't know all that much. Besides the actual content of the course that she has grown accustomed to teaching, she didn't seem to know much outside of it whenever questions were asked. Whenever someone challenged her with a different approach or idea, instead of entertaining it and going into it, she would pretty much just be like "That's not how we're going to do things" and wouldn't justify why her way was right and the student's way wasn't. At the same time, certain students would derail the class and go off on tangents and she wouldn't do much to stop them, which wasted time and at the end of the semester a lot of crucial content was rushed and yet still tested in full on the exams. I do generally like Dr. Antonisse and I think that the class wasn't all that bad overall. It was pretty easy and there was a good amount of busy work but it really wasn't too much. The exams were pretty easy. There was a cool project in the class where you analyzed real English phonetic data spoken by someone who speaks it as a second language and had to use your analysis to try and figure out what the speaker's first language was, which was pretty enjoyable. But there was a stark contrast between the way that Dr. Bleam runs Syntax I and the way that Dr. Antonisse runs Phonology I, and I get that they're different courses but I just came out of Syntax with a much more positive outlook than I did out of Phonology.

I had Dr. Antonisse for LING200, 240, and 321. I find her teaching style effective, and she clearly cares about her students and wants them to do as well as possible in her class.

She's a good professor but I don't really like her style in zoom. There's sometimes pointless breakout rooms that don't really help the learning process. Other than that she knows a lot and cares a lot about her students.

He is very knowledgable about course material and explains things well. His tests are fair and relevant to the material we learned in that unit.

The other reviews on here are pretty accurate; I'm mostly posting because I had Dr. Antonisse for a different class. My only real complaint is that the criteria for the final presentation were a bit unclear. If you take LING321, make sure you speak up in class, because a lot of the time the questions she asks tend to go dead otherwise.
