Topics in Psycholinguistics; Language and Thought

Prerequisite: LING321 and LING311; or permission of ARHU-Linguistics department. Repeatable to 6 credits if content differs. Does language shape cognition? Do the details of our native language(s) determine how we perceive the world? Can learning language give us access to new concepts? Explores these questions through case studies that include: color categorization, spatial frames of reference, navigation, theory of mind, time, and number.
