MATH423 Expecting an A Anonymous 01/14/2026 |
Had Professor Khurana Spring 2025 for MATH423. The syllabus was very clear and was followed to a T which was very helpful when I had to miss some lectures. She also publishes notes and annotated notes which were very helpful for understanding proofs and reviewing for exams. She spent time to ensure everyone understood the material. The hws and exams were very fair, no curveballs. The examples discussed in class correlated well with real world scenarios, making the topic relatable (especially if you're interested in supply chain mgmt, energy grid markets, etc.) Overall, Professor Khurana made the material understandable and enjoyable, would recommend. |

MATH423 Expecting an A- Anonymous 12/30/2025 |
Having taken Professor Yashinski for MATH461, I can confidently say that he remains an exceptional instructor for MATH423. His lectures are incredibly well-structured; he excels at breaking down complex topics in a way that is easy to understand. The homework assignments are highly reflective of the lecture material, making them quite manageable if you pay attention in class. Professor Yashinski is also incredibly kind and helpful during office hours. He quickly identifies exactly where you are struggling and provides clear, patient explanations. I also appreciated the grading structure - ten homeworks, three midterms (15% each), and a cumulative final. This setup offers a safety net, allowing you to recover your grade if one exam doesn't go as planned. One caveat: The exams are quite lengthy for a 50-minute class. He also expects extensive manual computations with no calculators allowed, so beware. Overall, highly recommend! |

This is Allan's first time teaching MATH423, and overall, I'd say he did a fairly decent job! There are no notes for this class, but Allan records all of his lectures. Allan always makes sure to go about topics slowly, and also makes sure people understand clearly what a piece of mathematical notation means (granted, there isn't that much difficult notation in this class, but he still makes sure to keep things neat). Homework is 25%, and there are 2 Homework drops, and it's relatively easy to get a 100% on most of them. There are 3 exams and a final, weighted 15% and 30% respetively. Allan is, overall, a really nice person and always willing to clarify any issues or questions. The material and content of this class are rather easy (though sometimes not the most interesting), and the exams had high averages (85-95) for all of them. The final wasn't too much different from the exams, though sometimes the wording was a bit overcomplicated. Still, each exam besides the final had a practice exam to go alongside it, and I'd say the homework did a pretty good job preparing you for the exam. Overall, I liked 423 with Allan tho! :) |

Math423 was a fun and relatively chill math course. There are a lot of interesting applications to the topic and the algorithms learned are fun. Allan was great as always. I would recommend him to anyone, whether math major or not. Most clear lectures I have ever experienced (I have now had him for 3 courses): Come to class, follow his lectures, and take notes and you've done half the work of studying already. |

Dr. Khurana is a fantastic professor. For Math 423 all of her notes were well organized on ELMS. The HWs in this class don't take that long to complete and they are always fair. The exams are fair and representative of what is taught in class and what was on the HWs. The best part about her is that she is very caring and nice. She would go out of her way to make sure students understood the material. She also held review sessions before each exam outside of class to make sure that everyone was well prepared. Definitely take this class if you want an enjoyable and interesting 400 level math class. |

Coursework was reasonable and grading was lenient. Notes from lecture posted on elms. Sample exams, sample questions, and homeworks/quizzes are pretty representative of what you can expect on exams. Exams: - 2 midterms (cheat sheets allowed) - 1 final, with a take home portion (cheat sheets allowed) Graded Assignments: - 6 homeworks - 2 class activities (take home) - 2 quizzes (take home) - extra credit assignment At most one assignment given per week. Assignments take a reasonable amount of time to complete. Professor Khurana typically holds several office hours throughout the week. However, if you have any questions or need extra support outside office hours she is flexible and willing to help. |

Dr. Khurana was great for MATH423 especially considering how new the course was. The materials were exceptionally well organized. The coursework was reasonable and her grading was lenient. There were 2 midterms and a final, with formula sheets allowed for each exam and the lowest assignment grade dropped. Her pacing was consistent throughout the course and she was very patient with students in class. All of her notes were published on ELMS and she gave frequent office hours. It’s clear that she cares about the topics she teaches. While the course is elective, I’d definitely recommend taking it if the topic sounds at all interesting to you. |
