Introduction to Clinical Research Methods

Introduction to Clinical Research Methods will provide students an opportunity to learn about both the development and implementation of a clinical research study and a variety of methods utilized for sample collection. Students will review topics including an overview of bioethics in research, especially as pertains to use of human subjects, the basics of study design, and data entry and the importance of good record keeping in an in-person, discussion-based class portion. Students will also be trained in and have the opportunity to practice basic clinical research methods including phlebotomy, taking nose and throat swabs, taking basic vitals, and other methods. By the end of the course, students will be certified to perform phlebotomy at the University of Maryland with the potential be become a certified Phlebotomy Technician.
