I loved this class! Professor Pellechia was so passionate about nutrition and cared more about her students learning than anything. The class was super easy to manage, while informative. I recommend this class to all of my friends. All tests/quizzes were open note and online, so students could complete them at their own pace. The only big assignments were a project and a debate paper. 10/10 recommend!!

This class is an easy A if you do the work. There are five papers, but you only have to do three. They are graded by TAs. Attendance is mandatory, as there was a sign in sheet. You had to participate in one debate, and the final project was lengthy. This is a very dry class. Participation is encouraged but there was no check. Many did work for different classes during this class. The professor and TAs were not as understanding as they could have been. The only reason I received a B- is because I did not put in the effort.

No exams, just papers that are lengthy so don't start those last minute. Make sure to get attendance points from almost every class. Overall, not terribly hard to get an A.

Overall, this course was a pretty easy A. The most important part was just coming to class because you sign in to get your attendance points. You don't have to take notes on the lecture slides because there are no quizzes or tests on any of the material. There are 5 assigned debate papers, about 2 pages single-spaced, but you only have to complete 3 of them. You also have to participate in one in-class debate for one of the papers you complete. The other assignments were pretty easy 5-point grades and the final group project was not that bad as long as you communicate with your group and come up with good intervention plans for your selected topic.

Professor Pellechia is an AMAZING professor and NFSC220 was definitely one of the best classes I've taken at UMD. The course was very manageable with some small 1-page assignments, two debate papers, a midterm, and a final (all of which were online, on your own time, and completely open note). Professor Pellechia genuinely wanted us to enjoy the class and learn about the material, and she herself is very passionate and knowledgable about the course's topics. She's also very understanding and flexible with due dates if you email her about it. If you're thinking about taking this class with Pellechia, take it!!

This professor is very passionate about what she teaches which makes the class engaging. We learned many aspects of nutrition including what it was, how it relates to disease, society, etc. Assignments were very manageable with two debate papers and a few little assignments during the semester. There were two debates that occurred in the class for fun. Couple of quizzes, a midterm, and final which were all open note and on our own time. She genuinely wants us to be curious and learn the material. She is very approachable and will accept late work if you talk to her. Highly recommend!

Grades are done mostly by TAs. Attendance is mandatory and participation counts for a grade. There are 3 debate papers (max 3 pages) you have to write, some other assignments that are grade boosting and a final group project at the end. It wasn't too bad but single space for the papers and mandatory attendance were the most annoying.

Dr. Whent is definitely knowledgeable in this field. Her PowerPoints were very helpful and clearly displayed what was needed for the exams. Also, her class activities are pretty fun and easy. The one knock I would have on her is that some lectures were boring, as she sometimes just read from them without adding much. Other than that, she was great and the class was an easy A.
