Special Topics in Persian Studies; Masterpieces of 20th Century Persian Literature
This course will cast light on Persian literature in the period of transformation from the classical to the modern period in Iran before and after constitutional revolution (1905-1907). The formation of a constitutional monarchy and the emergence of a parliamentary political system, the arrival of the printing press and the growing popularity of journals and newspapers as well as increasing levels of translation of historical and literary texts from other languages were some of the mainfactors that led to the public awakening and development of Iran's first generation of modern poets and writers. This course focuses on the key figures and their works in different literary genres for the period from the 19th through the 20th centuries. Taught in Persian.
