Coming from someone who is not a philosophy or environmental science major, I found phil261 to be interesting enough to keep me engaged. Lectures were engaging but I did not find them as helpful as I would have hoped for. Discussion sections were led by a TA (the professors husband who has a phd in philosophy) and were actually helpful because we would go over the main points from each reading. There were 1 question reading quizzes before each class that were super easy as well as weekly discussion boards. The midterm and final were both online and open note but were graded harshly. Papers were also graded on the more critical side but were manageable. This is the only philosophy class I will ever take but I'm glad I took it and would not discourage anyone from taking it.

Take this class, Jimmy is a great guy and really wants you to think. He has his opinions but works topics to make you see multiple sides. The class was so fun and easy, super light work load. So chill and cool, highly recommend!

Brian is the man! He is one of the most intelligent and thoughtful professors I have ever met (Both him and Casey (Who is also the man, very cordial and knowledgeable) who TAed this course convinced me to dual enroll in PHIL) and the class is equally interesting. The readings are very manageable (I don't think there was one over 20 pages, which is short for PHIL) and the class was always a pleasure to go to (Even for an 8 AM, I never missed a class). The exams were not overly difficult, the term paper was actually fun to write, and all the readings are extremely interesting and will challenge your beliefs about how we interact with the environment. Overall, this class is so great! If you have an elective open, a passing interest in anything environmental, or want to improve your argumentative chops without tearing your hair out with stressful assignments then I totally recommend this class with Brian.
