PHIL309B Expecting an A Anonymous 05/23/2025 |
Prof. Rey is extremely knowledgeable about analytic philosophy, and his course on Anti-Realism was an eye opening survey covering a wide variety of topics including but not limited to mathematics, logic, cognition and consciousness, language, reality, properties, etc. This was the first upper level philosophy course I took and the material itself was often difficult to wrap your head around. Lectures were fairly engaging, though sometimes could be pretty dry. Grading felt quite opaque at times, and the first exam everyone did so poorly he offered a class-wide retake. |

PHIL309B Expecting a W Anonymous 10/25/2020 |
Man is he bad... first the lectures are unbearable and so long. Then he gives you hundreds of pages in readings including his own poorly written book. Finally the exam is half a writing assignment which if your lucky you understand and perform well on, but another half is an in person meeting where he grills you on questions he picks until he's satisfied. It is by far the worst class I have ever taken and my first withdrawal in 4 years at UMD, please take my advice and do not take any course with this professor. |
