Justice demands fairness: that we punish all and only the guilty. But a growing body of research suggests that our prejudices and biases undermine the pursuit of justice. We will critically evaluate this evidence and look ways of correcting for human biases. The overarching philosophical concern is the fragility of human reason within the American criminal justice system. Students should contact the instructor at roglive@umd.edu.
