I took a class that he taught online so that I didn't have to come all the way back to campus from my government job in DC. He arranged a series of in-person extra credit activities like our Q & A with politicians at the 2025 Maryland Legislative Session which was very interesting. One of the legislators we spoke to went to UMD so it was great to hear from them. Annapolis was an even longer distance to travel to than College Park from my work, but I was able to ask questions that were directly related to my paper. Mark Croatti was the only one teaching this course online that semester and even though I would rather have taken the class in-person, not too many professors besides Croatti arrange these types of events. However, Zoom sessions can also be really distracting and even boring, especially if a professor doesn't call on you a lot or offer as many office hours as you would get in person.

My only experience was part of an Asian international program in summer 2024. He brought us to a wide variety of U.S. government department visits within the greater Washington DC region so that we could discuss how American policies compare to those in our home countries. We were always given as much time as we needed to ask questions with the directors of these agencies when the visits took place as scheduled but sometimes these events would get rescheduled at the last minute and professor must find an alternative activity. However, creating an equivalent replacement for those particular situations was not always achieved.

An overwhelming emphasis on writing skills which for me weren't strong to begin with but they improved after this course since the structure was focused on developing the papers. It seemed like the class was intended to be one big office hours meeting, which didn't leave a lot of time for covering the material in the assigned chapters.
