PLSC489Z

Special Topics in Plant Science; Environmental Sustainability

Cross-listed with ENSP489Z. Credit only granted for PLSC489Z or ENSP489Z. We will investigate how continuing impacts of climate change, introduced species (including COVID-19) and the world political and economic stage have shaped the land and culture of New Zealand in the past and will continue to do so. Experience New Zealand virtually from live presentations and interviews with local experts on how the government approaches several aspects of sustainability, including but not limited to energy production (geothermal, hydropower, wind), ecological conservation programs (biodiversity), tourism, and low-impact urban design including stormwater management and architecture. This is a Global Classrooms course, developed in partnership with the Office of International Affairs (OIA) to provide virtual opportunities for global engagement. Global Classrooms can range from embedded experiences to immersive, project-based collaboration. Learn more about Global Classrooms: go.umd.edu/gc-umd.
