dr. o'brien's lectures are amazing, the topics covered are so important and interesting, and the assignments are challenging in a good way. there is a long-ish paper but you get to choose the IPV topic and it was honestly really interesting to write. the midterm was multiple choice with three essay questions which can get kind of stressful. i love that there are guest speakers and opportunities to volunteer. she really cares about her students so as long as you put in the effort and have a good grasp of the material, you can do great. one downside is that you can't take notes on your laptop or ipad, which kinda sucks because i can't write as fast as i type. but it's still one of the best classes i've ever taken. dr. o'brien is an excellent professor and person. |

Dr. O'Brien is one of the best professors I've had at UMD so far (I'm a sophomore); she cares about her students and puts a lot of work into making the course easy to learn. It's a discussion based class which I loved and as long as you participate and do the readings and the work you should be able to get an A. This class also is really applicable to real life which was my favorite aspect. |

Dr. O'Brien is one of my favorite professors in the PSYC department. She responds to emails quickly, is extremely friendly, and encourages introspection. I took her course on domestic violence prevention and came out of it even more of a victims advocate. Def take her class if you're interested in women's issues, human rights, etc! |
