This professor is the SWEETEST professor you will ever take! If you are considering this class, take it with Dr. Willis! The class was very straightforward and I personally did not find trouble with any assignments. We had in class assignments almost every class, a group project on something health related (for example, some of my classmates did lack of sleep in college students, burnout in healthcare professionals, etc) stuff like that. There were no exams except for one midterm that was out of 50 points, but it was super doable. Every group project was not presented, but was added to a discussion board where the rest of the students has to watch, and write a discussion based on the group presentation they watched. We had to do 5 reading post with an optional 6th one if you want to replace your lowest reading post grade. The TA was super nice too! Definitely take this class if you can! You'll definitely love it!

Dr. Willis is wonderful and is clearly passionate about what he teaches. My only gripes with the course I took, PSYC344, are the turnaround time on major graded assignments (which are all written), and the repetition of said assignments (you will be writing about a LOT of interventions both for yourself and for others). With these minor details aside, I thoroughly enjoyed Dr. Willis' teaching. The content was interesting, each lecture was a little different, and Dr. Willis integrated videos and guest lecturers to prevent the class from getting boring or repetitive. He is very approachable and friendly, and one of the most personable professors I have ever met at my time at UMD. Generally just a very cool guy. Any professor that brings up their Animal Crossing: New Horizons island when discussing the health psychology behind the Covid-19 pandemic is a winner in my book. Though I would like to see some of the major assignments slightly restructured, I would highly recommend Dr. Willis as a professor as he is, in my opinion, one of the most personable and engaging faculty members at UMD.

If you need a health elective to take, I will recommend this professor! I loved his class and gave a fair assignments and exams. Although it was a lecture class we still had to discussions sometimes for in class activities. I would take again if I could!

Great teacher and sweet person. I don't know why other people are saying her exams are hard. They aren't. The questions are literally copied from her slides. 2 exams are online and there's a final, where she lets you have a cheat sheet. Attendance isn't necessarily mandatory, and you can get away with doing clickers at home. But sometimes, she does in class activities for participation points or changes her clicker ID. Go to lecture but you don't have to pay attention or take notes. She's an easy grader and the class isn't time consuming AT ALL. I would definitely recommend this class for an easy A+.

Professor Vandaalen is the sweetest and truly cares about her students! Attendance isn't mandatory, but there are clicker questions that you get participation points with. You can follow along through PointSolutions. This class taught me a lot without being a stress-inducer. Loved her!

If you are going to take PSYC344, keep in mind that the topics discussed in this class are not so happy and cheery and bright. The class is about stress, addiction, disease, etc., and will not have you feeling awesome afterwards. Dr. Hamilton was very nice though, and her class was not that hard. No aspect of the class took up too much of my time. Strangely, she read off her slides verbatim. It was as if she did not know anything about Health Psychology beyond the words on those slides. Since the class was completely asynchronous and she just provided the videos that she recorded last year, I didn’t feel much of a connection to this class. Depending on how you perceive it, it’s either an Easy A or a waste of money.
