Selected Topics in Russian Language and Literature; Russian Emigre Literature and Culture

This course explores the cultural life of Russian emigre communities with a focus on literature and other art forms they produced in the twentieth century. Among the questions we will consider are the challenges of carrying on a meaningful Russian existence in exile, the problems of emigre and national identity, the diasporic relationships with domestic and Western cultures, internal immigration, and the consequences of homecoming. Taught in English.
