Brian Connor SOCY451 Expecting an A+ Anonymous 12/21/2025	I love this class. It is a pretty chill/easy 400-level socy class and Dr. Connor is remarkable; a very kind professor and really cares about his students/the topics he teaches. He is also funny during lectures, keeps his teaching style engaging, and encourages many.discussions during class. I really hope that man gets a promotion because the UMD socy department needs him. The content is interesting to learn, especially as someone with very little tech knowledge. I specifically enjoyed learning about data collection/AI use in more detail. Most socy classes don't talk about the data collection behind AI, and learning about some of the technological topics in this class has totally changed my perspective of modern society. There are a good bit of readings, but they are all pretty short and very digestible. It is okay to fall behind on them, as long as you make sure you are up to date with the readings by the exams. There is a weekly discussion board, midterm exam, final exam, bibliography assignment, and a final project. All of the exams/projects were easy to understand and complete if you pay attention in class/study. I totally recommend this class to any socy major.
Brian Connor SOCY451 Expecting an A Anonymous 05/21/2025	super chill guy, the work for the class over the entire semester was basically just one 8 page paper and a short presentation, along with a few discussion questions he's easy to talk to and helpful if you reach out, and his lectures are fairly decent - i do wish some of the class readings were a bit more interesting but that's about it final paper did feel a bit vague/confusing to write but talking to him a lot helped with figuring out what to do, more paper checkins would be appreciated
