Seminar: Theory and Performance Studies; Techno Orietnalism: Race, Technology, and Performance

This course will interrogate the history of Orientalism and its prevalence in western cultural production. We will begin with a close reading of Edward Said's Orientalism (1978) then shift to the manifestation of orientalism in the computer age (Techno Orientalism). This class will look deeply at the representations of race and technology by examining plays and films throughout the semester. Students will get the opportunity to guide discussions and curate media. You will take on the role of the primary investigator of diverse critical perspectives presented weekly.
