Awesome class and professor! This class is just discussion, two group projects, and a final paper, which is manageable. As long as you turn in your work, show up, and participate, you’ll be amazing!! Recommend this class and Dr. Eaker!! |

Colin is an amazing professor, and anyone who needs a DSHS should take this class. It is essentially a discussion-based class where we get the chance to dig deep into education and all the different factors that go into our current education systems and government and we only had about 3 or 4 assignments. He's very fair with grades and is extremely down-to-earth. |

Dr. Eaker is amazing and genuinely cares about her students. The workload is not extreme at all and it's mostly daily discussions, which are very informal and not scary. As an ed major, I think this class is super interesting, and if you participate and turn in your work you will be fine. |

Dr. Eaker is such a nice and genuine professor. The class was mostly discussion based, with our only real grades being 2 presentations and 1 final paper. But she is very lenient grader, as long as you put some effort in your guaranteed an A. |

Colin is the best ong. He's very lenient but it's very clear he's passionate about what he's teaching and what we're all here to do. He doesn't believe in grades (aka just wants you to do your best and will give you the grade you deserve), is very kind, and cares about his students. The readings can be very lengthy, depending on the week, but both him and whoever the assigned reader(s) are, they'll summarize it in class so you won't really have to read it but you should. The discussions are a mix of statistics and personal beliefs and ethics about education and school. Because he's lenient with grades, I (or any of my other classmates) haven't received any grades at all the entire semester and probably won't until the end of the semester lol, but we're all confident we're gonna pass because of his attitude and belief in us. TLDR, take this class if you need it for your education major and you won't regret it. |

The kindest professor I have ever met. He truly cares about his students and wants to build relationships with them. He hosts class "discussions" (basically just hangouts) after lectures with the TA, it was always a good time getting to know him and my peers. I learned a lot in his class; if you are interested in discussing the problems in education, TLPL360 with Professor McCarthy is for you! |

Professor Eaker is such a kind, knowledgable, and understanding person. She is very friendly and approachable and always tries every class to engage her students in warm ways. The class is not too difficult and is very interesting (coming from an education major). I don't know how interesting this class would be to someone who is not passionate about education and teaching, however if you are an education major this class with Prof Eaker is highly recommended by me because it is both a GPA booster and personally enjoyable. |

Nice and straightforward lecture style. She does occasionally try to integrate activities, however, most classes are taught by pairs or small groups of students and then she will add a little bit before or after. |

Professor Eaker is so sweet and engaging with her students. This course was extremely easy and she set you up for success. I am a History and Secondary Education double major, so this class was very interesting to me. This class was set up with 2 quizzes, which are online and open note; a group presentation; a final interview and analysis; and participation. Dr. Eaker is a fair grader and wants the best for everyone. She is clearly very passionate about the topics given and wants to make sure her students know the complexity and severity of issues. Several class periods were asynchronous, and the ones that were in person were very fun and allowed us to show our interests outside of content as well. Overall this course is very easy and fun if you are looking to go into the education field or looking more into the history of education as a whole. |

Class-wise, you have weekly readings. Some readings might be a little long, but most are pretty interesting even if you are not any type of education major. The only major grades are 4 major essays + class reflection and participation. The essays increase in length over the semester, but its nothing difficult even if you do not like writing. You also have to lead a discussion with a partner (you sign up for a certain topic to talk abt) but its super chill and easy. Super insightful class and the professor is super nice and helpful. She makes class engaging and I would def recommend. |

Very nice, very lenient, grades nicely Classes are engaging since he was formerly a grade school teacher, so you do fun exercises. Coursework is very reasonable, and he is very nice. |

A wonderful person and professor! Her class was mostly based on discussions, and they were all engaging and easy to follow. She is very personable, and willing to admit when she doesn't know something off the top of her head. I've learned A LOT in this class without feeling completely overworked. I definitely recommend! |
