If you just want the diversity credit, I wouldn't take this class even if there are seats open. It was honestly just too much for a gen ed and the readings were a lot. Someone here said they never did the readings and idk it just made it awkward in class because she's waiting for you to say something, so it was always the same person(s) saying things. There are no exams but I felt like the projects were kind of a lot, even if you're good at splitting up your time. I was always stressed out about this class (readings and harsh grading) and at some point it kind of just got unbearable; I couldn't make myself attend class anymore. I was always complaining about this class, it's not even funny. I was literally pulling my hair out. If you're interested in the class, go ahead and take it, but if you want the diversity credit I would try to persuade you not to take this class. |

tbh guys... she's a nice lady and all but the readings are kind of bonkers. I'm talking like hundreds of pages for one reading. It's just kind of overkill. The work load doesn't seem that bad but coming from someone who's a pretty good essay writer, she's a pretty harsh grader. I sort of stopped consistently going to class after she said it wasn't mandatory and class attendance dwindled like every week. It's not that the class is boring, I just think some topics that we tackle are either heavy and depressing or confusing and like...I'm black but lowk if I weren't I would feel kind of awkward ngl. Just warning you. Also sometimes there's random group work and discussion and it's kind of just annoying. We don't have exams but the projects are kind of heavy dude... I'm talking the hundreds of pages that I just mentioned heavy. Also, just a note, the modules are balanced so weirdly. There were 4 but the first ended after like halfway through the semester, and the rest were short so time shrunk to be able to get certain assignments in. |

Professor Rowley is such a nice person and this class was super insightful as someone who is not Black. I really enjoyed going to class and just listening (as there are bi weekly readings that are all super long so I never did them) and I feel like it helped me understand more about the Black community as a whole. There aren’t that many assignments and most of them are self paced so you choose when to do them. Some of the assignments seem like a lot but honestly they aren’t that bad if you break them down and do it by parts. I’m also pretty sure participation and attendance aren’t a part of your final grade so you can skip whenever. |
