Dr. OB is an AMAZING professor. The class is so interesting and you learn a lot about domestic violence. Lectures are super engaging and there are a lot of guest speakers and an optional field trip to observe a domestic violence court. Dr. O'Brien is extremely organized and on top of things which is great. There is a midterm and a final which are trickier than one may think so definitely study for them. there is one research paper on a DV topic of your choosing and two 2-page application papers. she does take attendance every class and has a strict no-device policy. There is a 1-question extra credit quiz every class about the reading which is a great way to get extra points. Overall super interesting class and great professor. |

Dr. O'Brien is a fantastic professor. She is incredibly knowledgeable, kind, and her lectures are always very discussion-based and thought-provoking. There are plenty of fascinating guest speakers, a chance to go observe DV court cases, and then there's the potential to enroll in the optional second course PSYC391 in the spring. This course and her as a professor is one of my favorites at UMD. Truly a remarkable course and wonderful professor, take this class and anything she teaches if you get the chance! |

Dr. O'Brien is one of the best professors I've had at UMD so far (I'm a sophomore); she cares about her students and puts a lot of work into making the course easy to learn. It's a discussion based class which I loved and as long as you participate and do the readings and the work you should be able to get an A. This class also is really applicable to real life which was my favorite aspect. |

Dr. O'Brien is one of my favorite professors in the PSYC department. She responds to emails quickly, is extremely friendly, and encourages introspection. I took her course on domestic violence prevention and came out of it even more of a victims advocate. Def take her class if you're interested in women's issues, human rights, etc! |
