Dr. Black is the only professor I know to truly master reverse lecture and tie in lecture to a lab well. There are assigned videos for each lecture (range from 30 min to 70 min of content per lecture), just take thorough notes on each video - I used google docs and then screenshotted the photos in the videos to put in my notes. Each class is a discussion on applying the anatomy or games etc. Going to class didn't feel super mandatory except for participation assignments every class, but even without them I would go just because it was fun. She's super nice and understanding and will clear up any questions you have after class or in office hours. She'll get off topic if you berate her with veterinary questions(this means lecture assignments get postponed a week so she can finish the discussion, just don't forget to turn it in later cause she's strict about deadlines). Tests aren't too bad, but come up every 3 weeks. If you commit a few hours for the few nights before an exam(took about 8-10 hours total to master content for 90 averages on exams(70-78 class averages)), nothing out of the ordinary is on them. The best way I studied is to turn her objectives into questions and answer them in your notes and then draw out a mind map of everything. Very much looking forward to taking her again.

Dr. Black is a wonderful teacher and person. She explains things well, can be flexible, and gives very reasonable exams. I gave her 4 only because she is unnecessarily strict about certain things, like turning in lecture assignments. Also, there were lectures when I feel that the time could have been used better. Otherwise, excellent professor.

Dr. Black is probably my favorite professor of all time. If Dr. Black could explain anatomy to me, I am reasonably certain that an Orangutan would perform just as well as me (if not better) in the anatomy lecture. The concept of the LOVs (Learning Objective Videos) combined with her fun discussions of how anatomy relates to functional conditions in class is (unfortunately) many years ahead of its time. This is probably the most effective format for learning any topic, and is taught by (probably) the best instructor that I have ever had. If you are a student taking her course, go up and talk to her about something interesting (animal related) while you have the privilege of doing so. She likes sheep, collies, and primates.
