BIOE689R

Special Topics in Bioengineering; Biopolymers

Restriction: Permission of the Fischell Department of Bioengineering. Overview of the physicochemical principles of polymers with an emphasis on polymers found in biological systems and those exploited for medical applications. Concepts to be covered include polymer physics, rheology, macromolecular interactions, biopolymer networks (i.e. hydrogels, biomaterial scaffolds) and experimental methods. Modern topics related to polymers in bioengineering will be discussed throughout the course with frequent references to recent literature.
