Expecting an A

If you have to choose between BMGT434 and BMGT435, definitely take 435 if you want an A. You do have to go to class and office hours to do well. The exams are worth a lot but you get to bring a note sheet so definitely take advantage of that. Overall, if you actually go to class and study for exams, you should do fine.

Smart lady, pretty hard to follow class. First half with @Risk is ok. Second half with Arena is a mess (and pretty impractical, so it's hard to motivate yourself to figure it out). She seems to treat this like a graduate class (pretty sure our final was at least partially taken from BUDT758K). I'd be ok with that if the powerpoints we're expected to understand everything from were more succinct/easier to follow. Also, the accent makes it doubly hard. All of my professors this semester had a fairly thick accent, this is the only class I had trouble understanding/following, sometimes you just really have no idea what word she said. Not a lot of stopping, slowing down, or real engagement so if you miss something just hope it's in the powerpoint. All that being said I'm getting an A. I think she avoids giving below a B for anyone who tries. Got an A on midterm and a C on the final. Average on final was a D, I have a hard time believing most anyone totally understood the concepts behind Arena. Wouldn't recommend as an elective but not a terrible class.

Professor Kim is obviously very knowledgeable on the subjects she teachers, but definitely lacks the ability to convey this to students. Instead of teaching, then explaining, then practicing, then testing, she seems to skip the middle two sections and leaves students confused and unprepared to actually put the information into practice. In addition, when she was unsatisfied with the amount of people not participating(early class and no one knows whats going on) she decided to create a large participation grade in the middle of the semester that was never stated on the original syllabus, tanking grades class wide. Overall, smart person, bad teacher, no practice and little help as it seems she expects us to understand everything she does.

Dr. Ruhi is a VERY helpful teacher. He wants all of his students to do well and if you put in the time you should be able to earn an A in this class. However, I want to warn anyone who is thinking about taking this class, it is VERY demanding. In order to understand MANY of your assignments you will have to go get help from the TA or Dr. Ruhi. If you are not comfortable with going to get help MULTIPLE times throughout the semester, I would not recommend taking this course. Also... make sure you have your own laptop (WINDOWS) with Microsoft Excel 2003 installed. This is essential for the course. If you don't have a laptop you will have to get a laptop from OIT, which will be a major pain in the butt!
