I really liked the problem sets in this course, they were super helpful for understanding the material and getting ready for the exam. I just wish there were more of them to practice with. The group project was also cool because it gave me a current view of international finance with a specific focus. The professor seems genuinely into the course content, and that made a difference. His personality is enjoyable, and I hope he opens up a bit more to make the class even more interesting. Overall a good experience.

Try to avoid going to the professor , slides were extremely not helpful at all and the lectures were also extremely not helpful. Grades aren’t graded until the last week and this class was very unpleasant to go to. Pretty sure he teaches the way he does because of Tenure.

Just an all around, god awful experience. Apparently completely switched up the content of the class from previous semesters and made it all dense, computational power point presentations. Assigns Excel work that was never taught before and expects you to have an understanding of it (though not in the pre-reqs in the syllabus). Gives "practice problem sets" that are multi-step elaborate question, but ONLY posts the final answer and not how to solve through them. Some of these differ and are trick questions compared to what he has on the slides. The only way to understand how to do them is by going to his review lecture, where he speeds through the explanation and doesn't allow you to take a picture of his writing so you can refer back to it. By far the most unnecessarily difficult class, and worst "professor" I've had thus far.

Stay away at all costs. I don't care if you need this class because it fits your schedule or because you need BMGT446 I am telling all of you to avoid this professor. Out of my 4 years at UMD this was easily the worst professor I have ever had in undergrad. His class has no structure, he walks into class and proceeds to yap for the entire class and has no awareness to when students are confused or have questions. Reads 100% off the slides and there is really no point coming to class as there is no attendance taken or in class activities. We have 45 students in the class and literally only 10 of them come to class. Doesn't update ELMS at all so you have no idea what your grade is until the last week of the course and (I understand this is out of his control) he has an accent that makes it impossible to understand what he is saying. Worst class experience by far in any of my undergraduate classes.

This class was taught asynchronous during covid and it could've been the worst way to take the class. Her lectures were confusing due to the course topic not being the easiest to understand. However, she is very sweet and helpful if you every reach out to her. The class had a hard midterm/final, easy group project, and weekly quizzes that were comparable to the tests. She gives some opportunities for extra credit.

Doesn't really teach, final was pretty easy but did not learn a single thing.

Hewer is an excellent professor! Now, when you first begin taking his class, you might be "shell shocked" by his complete lack of technology usage. He has no power points, he doesn't use blackboard, and he hardly writes anything on the board. But the amazing thing is, he doesn't need any of those tools: his lecture is all you need to do well in the course. If you go to class and pay attention (which you really have to because he does cold calling just to get people engaged - not to punish anyone) you realize you can learn everything just by going to class. Its amazing! I've never had a class like it, and I loved it. Basically Hewer will brief the topic he is going over, write up any formulas on the board, and then starts creating situations and asking the students what will happen; 'If a US firm exports to customers in Germany, and the Euro appreciates, does this hurt the US firm? What if they import inputs?' And what he'll do is he'll either call on someone who has raised their hand or he'll simply walk over to you and look at you or call on someone obviously not paying attention ("Are you watching a movie?" lol!). But you can tell he really just wants to engage everyone and get them thinking; he's not trying to punish anyone for day dreaming. Due to such "cold calling" I would try harder than I did in other classes to pay attention so I could answer correctly if he called on me (or even raise my hand!). I learned the most out of going to this class, and when it came time for one of his quizzes and I wasn't feeling well and had to go to the doctor, I briefed the topics in the waiting room and realized I had learned everything in class and ended up getting an A on the quiz, but NOT because it was easy but because I learned everything in class. Tests and quizzes are hard, there's a case study and two homeworks, all manageable, but by no means easy... I'm pretty sure I'm getting a B but I don't care because it was one of the best classes I've ever taken! I learned so much; Hewer is so nice too! He has a German accent but its not distracting. TAKE INTERNATIONAL FINANCE WITH HEWER!
