Honestly just avoid if you can. I had a 95% literally the entire semester and then on the last day of the grading period it dropped a ton (to a 80%) with zero warning. Canvas grades are super misleading and do NOT show how your final grade will actually be calculated. Lectures are basically him reading off slides and talking at the class. Participation is weighted heavily but graded insanely harsh, pretty sure no one got a 100% on participation. Peer reviews and group stuff matter way more than you think and can screw you even if you show up and try. Also emailing him is awful. Very rude, dismissive, and talks down to you instead of helping. Overall just stressful, confusing, and not worth it unless you have no other option.

One of the most useless classes I’ve taken in my time at UMD. Talked about the same basic business principles every class. Would have been better off studying for other classes then wasting time going to this one. Paulo also takes an extremely long amount of time to get grades back. During the semester and afterwards. It’s 10 days after final grades should have been submitted and everyone is still waiting on their grade. Avoid if possible.

Professor Paulo brings qualities that rarely coexist in the classroom. He is one of the most passionate and admired professors at Smith. He holds high standards while also remaining flexible and genuinely student-centric. He takes the time to explain concepts through thoughtful discussion, often with an unexpected sense of humor that makes the learning experience both engaging and memorable. His energy in the classroom often makes you wonder what Prof. Paulo must have been like in his prime. He structures BMGT466 as one of the best open-discussion learning experience. Students are assigned 2 written case memorandums (3rd optional) out of a total of 12 cases discussed in class. Attendance is expected to support healthy discussion and is meaningfully tied to class participation. The course includes a group project focused on a company expanding abroad, with portions of the work completed collaboratively during class each week and culminating in a final presentation. Finally, the online final exam consists of three essay questions based on three in-class integrative cases.

Easy class that you have to do all yourself basically. He doesn't teach and grading is so weird.

I didn't have a choice but take this course with this guy. I am HoH and struggled to understand him with his accent. The coursework is light-ish. You have lots of case studies to read which I barely read some of them. You'd be in a group project and then choose a company you want to work on that it should expand internationally. You have two big presentations. And three case study essays (up to 1 page, single spaced). And that's it. An easy load class except where you'd have to do research for the group project. I find the case studies a bit irrelevant and Prochno could have done something better to make the class helpful to retain global business material in your head. Honestly, I would have enjoyed this class better if I had a different professor.

I took Wellman's class in Fall of 2018 and can say without a doubt that is shaped my career choice, when I graduated that December, for the better. Wellman focuses on bringing relevant, well-connected speakers to the classroom. If taken seriously, the speakers (and the information they share) can be priceless connections. I have used examples from these speakers during critical interviews and have used the business assessment we took to demonstrate to my current company my ability to perform under high stress situations. I highly, highly advise taking this course!

This guy is just awesome. 466 is easy an its interesting. he interjects humor that alleviates some of the boredom of the class. the whole class is just a simulation and case studies. i would definitely recommend this class with this teacher. If you do your work, put in moderate effort into your three case write ups, and prepare for the final, you will get an A with relatively little effort. not only that, youll actually want to go to class. well, at least compared to your other classes.
