The reviews here are not reasonable at all. This professor is very knowledgeable and fun to listen to. He has a huge wealth of knowledge and personal anecdotes to share in the class. Yes, Professor Heston does take a detour from the narrative of concept explanation to give a real life example from his or his colleagues' experience in the industry. That is SO valuable - I mean, I got some sneak peeks into interactions between traders on the floor, traders in history that went down for illegal stuff and why, personal anecdotes, etc. This is valuable, especially for someone who has never been in that line of work before or is aspiring to be in a certain line of work. Plus, the personal anecdotes are fun. I have spoken to him after class about currency markets and other topics, and he always had so much insight and nuance - Even if I did not understand everything he said, I would make notes of the points to research later to get an understanding. Seems like people in the class struggle to hold their attention through the class and his teaching - So when he segways, people get annoyed because they don't get why he segways from the topic and how the next point relates to the overarching topic/concept being discussed. Overall, I'd say this is a good class, a valuable one, and you, as a student, have to practice holding attention for long enough to understand this professor. Don't skip class participation (it is SO easy and the prof is liberal with his fortune cookies). The TA for this class is also super nice and approachable. TA has quite a few after-class review sessions on Friday or according to his announcement on Canvas. |

Apparently, everyone here wants a robotic professor who only goes through the motions and makes classes as boring as possible. Like another review said, god forbid a professor who makes the class more exciting instead of simply bulldozing through dozens of slides every lecture. This class workload was manageable and he tells you exactly what will be on the exams given in class. There are no curveballs. Professor Heston is a very knowledgable and interesting person and I would recommend taking this class with him. |

I never care to write reviews, but Professor Heston's reviews are totally misleading. God forbid, a professor is not a robot who actually shares stories about their experiences. Heston cares to engage students and makes the course much more interesting with his teaching style. His jokes make learning about derivatives much more tolerable. Workload is not bad, but definitely participate otherwise it will hurt your grade. |

The professor is friendly, always willing to re-explain himself, and answer questions over and over again. However, despite his hardest efforts, he does not explain very well. This is due, in part, to the inherent nature of the course which is complicated and difficult. However, he tends to overcomplicate it by delving too deep into the mathematical underlying logic of the concepts. He also struggles to explain himself. His assignments/exam were difficult, and not very flexible with grading. However, he does curve up for the final letter grade. |

What a useless professor. If this course were graded on his time at Goldman Sachs or his stories of 9/11 I probably would have gotten an 'A' in this course. I am pretty sure he takes more time thinking of off the cuff misogynistic jokes than anything else. His lectures are really boring, just him speaking about his life. He is extremely intelligent, he just has to translate that into some form of teaching. Takes super long to grade anything. I'd love to have a beer with him, horrible professor with my experience. |
