I have never interacted with the professor, but she did have hundreds and hundreds of students, so I think that's fair. The course was completely asynchronous, and the background videos, pre-lab videos, and lab videos were all done by TAs or another professor. Cons - TAs (your first point of contact) do not respond quickly or at all sometimes to the discussion board for student's questions. So, email your TA directly A different TA graded-Every every week, your lab, so some weeks they might be more stringent with points, and other weeks questions that should've been marked wrong weren't?? - Not given a review guide for the final (which is the only exam in this class) - 2 of the 11 labs that the final was based on were not returned in time for the exam, so you didn't really know if you understood those concepts before you were tested on them - You're kind of on your own for this course cause it virtual, so you don't have classmates to reach out to, the TAs are slow, and there was only one time for office hours a week, so if you have another class at that time, you're screwed - The prelab and labs were very time-intensive for a 1 credit class Pros - Most of the labs were not that hard, but they just took up a lot of time - She dropped your lowest experiment grade (prelab and lab together) - Good curve (but it depends on your class average)

Asynchronous class. PROFESSOR: To be honest, not even sure what her involvement with the class was. TAs graded everything. Lab videos were recorded last year by another professor. I'm not even sure what her voice sounds like. Is incredibly strict and encourages TAs to be quick to take points. Seems completely unconcerned with whether or not you learn anything in her class. LABS: Took anywhere from 5-10 hours per week to complete and the prelabs took 2 hours. So 7-12 hours total per week on labs despite this being a 1 credit course. Also it might as well have been written in another language because of how mind-numbingly confusing it was. The lab book had multiple scientific errors in every experiment and was incredibly tedious. I had no clue what I was supposed to be learning and basically just winged every single question. So I was hopelessly confused when submitting the labs but was just glad that it was finally over for that brief moment. For one lab, they just had us write out dozens of chemical equations for a few hours. Also the lab videos had tons of mistakes, like for one experiment they just spill chemicals all over, completely confounding the results. They don't tell you why your explanations were wrong so learning is minimized. EXAM: There is only one exam (the final) and she does not give partial credit. She did not provide us with any material to use to study for it and did not even get 2 of our labs back to us before we took the exam.

-lab videos were confusing and inaccurate -pre quizzes didn't match material -didn't respond to emails and when she did respond, she was condescending -didn't prep the TAs -no study session or practice questions for final (setting us up to fail) -way too much work for 1 credit class -paranoid of cheating (took it out on current students)

Rude, unhelpful, the course was so poorly designed. A prime example was the terrible quality of videos and it was so obvious the coordination between TA's and the professors was very poor. Professor publically humiliated a TA TWICE because they didn't use the "proper" formatting for announcements.

This was really just the worst. First of all, there was ZERO communication on her part with any of the students and it was unclear if she even communicated with the TA's. I messaged her several times over CANVAS and also emailed her separately but not once did I get a response over the course of a full semester. I once went to her "review office hours" before the final, and she did not even have her zoom camera on, which I thought was just ridiculous, especially considering she made every single student sit on a zoom conference while taking the final exam, with their cameras on at the expense of their grade. Just not right at all. There were 11 labs total in the class, and most of them consisted of a pre-lab quiz, a video recording of her doing the lab along with data sheets, and post lab questions. Let's talk about that. The pre-labs were usually not written comprehensible, or expected answers that directly conflicted with the online text book that she wrote. Yeah, that's also a thing. The labs themselves were also very unclear. In the videos, she very often did the procedure she designed incorrectly, adding entirely the wrong quantities of substances or sometimes just missing the tube (which was hilarious though, I must say). On the data sheet, it was very unclear what was expected for each part, and since she never answered email or CANVAS messaging it was not easy to tell. Even the TA's didn't always know the answers. The post lab questions were all submitted on this 3rd party website called TopHat, which frequently auto-graded questions wrong, leaving students with a 40% average until 3/4 through the semester some great TAs helped out to fix it. Even so, the stress and anxiety that came from that was crazy high. Let's talk about the final. I see that last semester's class averaged a 40% on the final, so I guess our class did really well by averaging a 55% on the final. Congrats. Very true to form, the final was just as unclear as the rest of the class had been. In addition to vague questions, there were also questions that were just wrong, like one question regarding the equilibrium concentration constant which gave you a Negative Concentration. Now you might be thinking "that's impossible, you can't have a negative concentration of something." Well, you're right. You can't. But there was. Yeah. Anyways, I do believe that she is the only one who runs the CHEM132 lab, so it looks like you're stuck and I'm so sorry. Also, if you are someone who thinks this review is bad because I'm expecting a bad grade, it's not. If I get a 100 for this class it will not have made it worth it. Unfortunately, like so many people, I had to take this class as a requirement. It was just such an unpleasant experience through and through.

THE WORST CLASS. I don't know if it was because I took the lab online, but I learned nothing in the class. Dr. Guest takes weeks to respond to your emails and I would have to email 3 TA's just to get a response. When I did get a response from the 3 TA's all the responses gave me a different answer to my question. Prepare to fail the final.

DON’T DO IT! She is rude and unintelligent. She thinks she is above email and will not answer you. This class is disorganized and downright terrible.

Professor did not help or communicate students and did not provide any clarification. The workload was WAY too much for a 1 credit class and the grades ended up being inconsistent and after receiving MANY complaints from students, they gave points back for previous labs. Unnecessarily difficult class.
