He's a good teacher. He cares about the subject he's teaching, and the class is discussion based. As long as you make contributions to the in class discussions here and there you should be good, since you do get a participation grade for mid semester and final grade submissions to Testudo. It's also easy to do the readings right before class/find summaries online. The class consists of papers and these in class discussions, and you'll be doing reading questions as a do now exercise at the start of every class. Easy A if you do what you're supposed to.

I would recommend this class, but I wouldn't say it is an easy gen-ed. If you put the work in, you will be fine though. There are daily reading assignments that are about 50 pages, and you spend the whole class discussing the chapters. Participation is a big part of the grade so you do have to show up. You can get away with not reading the chapters and not talking during class but your participation grade will be lower. I never really understood the readings, so I never talked in class and I'm still gonna end with a fine participation grade. There are 3 essays but he is a very lenient grader. So overall, you do have a decent amount of work for the class, but it is easy to do well in as long as you try.

This guy is great. Personally, I like having a professor that just wants to talk about a reading in class. I'm not that big of a reader, but this class has made me enjoy reading so much. I learn so much from our discussions in class, and the essays are genuinely fun to write. The prompts for our essays were open ended and only based on the novels we read, so that might be part of it. Overall, great prof who truly enjoys what he teaches.

Professor Darouie-Haghighi is the kind of professor that you're sure is a really nice person but isn't very good at her job. She's a bit awkward like other reviews say, but means no harm - she asked students the day of the election how they were feeling about the candidates, explaining how in her country she's used to dictatorships. It wasn't the most appropriate topic to start the day off with, but she really did mean well. She also bases the class on group discussions about the readings, which most students don't do - so it's just awkward convo with you and the people around you for 15 minutes. A lot of painful silence. Every single class. The assignments are not hard, but her rubrics are very inconsistent. She will clear them up if you ask but it is annoying. Most grading is pretty lenient and she will always email you back right away if you have questions about anything.

I do understand a lot of the comments and agree that she is a little awkward at times. However, she is a super easy grader and she at least attempts to make it endurable. The class I was in didn't really engage and I think that makes it hard. The issue is that there is a lot of material and it can be pretty boring. I'd recommend just reading summaries on it. Her jokes bomb often but her determination to have one land is quite frankly inspiring to see.

Took a very good CMLT course with him on basically Latin/Native American literature. One of the few courses I never skipped in college.

i thought he was a decent professor but really really boring class. he knows a lot of what hes talking about, is good for answering questions, but unfortunately requires you to go to class because participation is part of your grade (20%!!!) the way they do participation is by making you answer a question near the end of lecture and handing it in. and my TA was pretty bad, i didn't like him at all, he tried to make lame jokes and tried to "scare" us into answering questions during discussion, it was weird. overall didn't really like the class, and there was WAYYYY too much reading!! [atleast 5 books, and that was only during the second half of the semester... one of the books was 700+ pages long]

I don't like reading at all, but when you come out of this class you learn a lot about history. Bauer is very helpful if you go to his O.H; he is also extremely smart so ask any questions, inc. Qs about the 2 essays and terms regarding the 2 tests. If you read and can write standard essays, you'll do fine; don't read then pay careful attention.
