Seminar in Mediated Communication; Arab Media

COMM468A introduces students to media systems in the Arab world. The course reviews the historical development and contemporary status of Arab media. In doing so, it compares and contrasts the similarities and differences between different media systems in the Arab region and explores the various political, economic, and social factors impacting their most recent changes, as well as the various challenges confronting them. The course also explores the impact of the new communication revolution, such as the introduction of satellite television and the Internet and the use of social media, on the media scene in the Arab world.
