COMM majors Public debate about social change has been part of American public discourses since the beginning of the country. This class explores rhetorical theories relating to social movement studies as well as tracing one concrete case study in depth from its inception in the 18th and 19th century, to the current day. The Red Power movement, running parallel to other 20th-century civil rights movements, offers an opportunity to study uniquely American examples of counter public discourses and responses to it.
