I took Dr. Soeder over Summer I semester and loved it. All lectures were prerecorded and the readings were very straight forward and interesting. You can work at your own pace as long as you get it done by the due date. She gives great feedback, as long as you put in the effort you will do fine. Very quick to get back to questions you have and friendly! Would definitely recommend.

I am honestly surprised her ratings are so low. Yes, she is a bit difficult regarding class conversations, but I think this is her personality. I don't find it rude, but instead, trying to engage you more in the curriculum. The biggest assignment is worked on all semester long and divided into several parts. It is nearly impossible to fail when it comes to presenting it. The assignments are set up so that you get relevant feedback and are able to improve. Other than these assignments, you do readings and discussions every week that are extremely easy. I skimmed most of them and got a 30/30 on every single one. She also allows you to not do two of them. She is caring, kind, and seems to care about her students doing well. I have to be honest, I learned a lot from her and look forward to taking her again next semester. Don't slack off, and you'll do wonderful.

She will argue back and forth with you and embarrass you in front of the class. If you go to her after class, she will make you feel very dumb. No one ever knows what to say to make her happy. She has such a narrow view of what she expects of her students. It is hard to make her satisfied, when you hear how she speaks to other students in the class it makes you not want to talk or ask her a question in front of the class so it is kinda hard to do well. She does participation points for class of when you speak and no one ever speaks bc she is very confusing and it is hard to follow what she is talking about.

Good luck with any project working with this teacher. She will take points off and she will explain to you what is wrong in the most confusing way possible. She will constantly keep you confused and go back and forth a million times until she gives up on you. I have never felt this way with a teacher and it is SO discouraging. Even in class when she gives feedback to students in front of the class it's almost as if she is so fed up with the students not understanding exactly what she wants and she comes off as very mean. A lot of other students in the class have also seen this happen and we have discussed how bad it is. Also, her projects are so confusing and weird no wonder students don't understand. Go to the writing center instead of dealing with her.

This teacher always finds things to take points off. She will always, I repeat, ALWAYS take points off for the smallest things, no matter how well you do your work. Homework, was her just throwing huge articles at us and making us talk about it non stop. If we had questions or conserves, she would rant to the whole class about how no one in the class did the readings and whatnot. DO NOT TAKE HER!

If you would like a teacher who picks favorites in the class, please go with her. She treats students differently based on her own reasons, does not give the same chances to others. She also will never give you 100%, no matter how good your work is, she will always find a reason to take points off. Lectures are basically her talking non stop, and she is not good at explaining.

Pros: -Entertaining lectures, can sometimes still do other things during class if you need to -Gives good feedback -Homework is quick and fairly easy -Pretty easy A, I felt my work was not always my best, but I still did not get below a 93 on any major assignments. Cons: -Homework feels like busywork at times and testbank quizzes felt like they were testing technicalities, rather than major concepts -You cannot find this textbook online anywhere; you just have to pay the money. -Sometimes it felt like no matter what I did, I would always do 'something wrong', which maybe says something about the class expectations. I question if it is even possible to get an A+ in this class given some of the critiques I was receiving on outlines and such. I'd say she deserves like a 4.5/5, but this site does not have that feature, so I'll round up :)

Dr. Soeder is a great professor. The class was one of the most interesting classes I have ever taken. She makes you use your brain and interpret visual artifacts in ways you may not be used to which makes it interesting. Sometimes are feedback on assignments and projects are very confusing but she is willing to answer any questions you may have about her feedback. I recommend taking this class.

Dr. Janna is a fantastic professor who I would recommend to anyone who is taking comm classes in general. She doesn't give too much work just a weekly discussion that shouldn't take more than 10-15 min max (depending on how long it takes you to read the reading) and there are no exams, only 2 presentation assignments. This class is basically an easy A as long as you go to class, raise you hand some, and do the reading responses.

Dr. Soeder doesn’t make this class harder than it needs to be. The grading was really fair and it was pretty easy to get an A. Classes are a bit dry but that is expected from a public speaking class. We were let out 15-20 minutes early every class which was nice. I would definitely recommend taking Dr. Soeder for COMM 107 if you have the chance.

Easy to get an A-, but try hard on your outlines/speeches for an A+. quizzes are easy and you have the textbook.

There are two types of COMM107 professors: those who don’t care about teaching and those who do care. Dr. Soeder is the latter. She is great at providing clear and constructive feedback and is very engaging. I enjoyed showing up to her class and she is an excellent professor. However, she definitely believes that there is no such thing as a perfect outline or presentation. If you truly want to learn in COMM107, then take her. But don’t expect to get an easy A with no effort because she holds her students to a high standard.

She's very transparent with due dates/information and grades quickly (tough grader on outlines, less so on the presentation itself). No reason not to take her.

didn't really love the class in my own opinion, but it was fine. She is very open and engaged. Her feedback is helpful but she will heavillyy critique your outlines even though it's just for comm107. However she graded lighter than expected for the actual presentations (based on how much she would critique the outlines). She's a good professor, I just didn't like the class itself.
