This class is okay at best. Often times there was so much busy work before class (reading articles, watching videos, etc.) and we had to be prepared to take a pop quiz on this information at random times. She would also quiz us on articles we read last week that were not fresh in my mind anymore which I found unfair. She also brings in a bunch of guest speakers which made it feel like she didnt wanna teach anymore. Holder however is so sweet and i absolutely love her. |

Rothman has accused 10+ students of cheating this past semester with literally no evidence, just with a "suspicious feeling". This class has no direction and no purpose. Despite that, Rothman finds ways to make it impossible and take points off of every assignment. |

This course was repetitive and substance-less, yet Rothman still implements ridiculous rules that make you forget you're an adult in a college class. You are not allowed to use any technology, including laptops for note-taking. Attendance is mandatory, and even with an excused note, you have to write a reflection on the topics you missed in class. At the beginning of the course, you are warned that your "non-verbal" behavior is being monitored to make sure you're paying attention and you are graded on this. Near the end of the course, we began having guest speakers every week since clearly, even the professors didn't know the purpose of the course. |

Never have I had a class where I questioned myself consistently before class, during class, after class, during assignments, and during projects the purpose of its existence. Civic Engagement for Social Good seems to be the outlier of all the scholar's programs as it truly does serve no real purpose. The main goal of the class is to teach others how to help others and to understand why you're helping others. Except helping others is apparently bad, and should be substituted for words and phrases such as "connect to" or "uplift". You are basically attending sessions of guest speakers talking about helping, my bad, "supporting", others for an hour and fifteen minutes, twice a week. At the end of class, you think about all the other things you could have accomplished throughout the day. You are probably thinking "I can just do something else during this class then". You are wrong. You cannot be on your phone, you cannot do work for other classes, you are not allowed to have a laptop or other technologies out, the clocks are disabled so you don't know what time it is, you cannot fall asleep as the professors are actively looking around to see who is engaged, you cannot talk to others, and you cannot eat as Rothman has some issue with it. You are probably thinking, "Let me just skip or miss a lecture". You are wrong again. You cannot skip as the lectures are mandatory and they grade on attendance as well. Missing a lecture causes you to write a reflection on whatever they learned in class. Another thing is the pop quizzes. To ace the pop quizzes, you must read the readings before class and be attentive throughout the last classes, as the questions written are specific and very detailed. The pop quizzes for any other class would make sense, however why am I worried about a pop quiz for this class? This class that should be an easy A is a class you have to put more effort in then your STEM classes. Every tedious assignment that is nitpicked for the smallest errors that you are completing almost encourages you to drop the class. If you are joining a scholar's class, do not join CESG. If you end up with CESG somehow, God Bless. |

Rothman's attitude towards us as students seemed really hostile, which made the course unenjoyable when she taught as compared to Professor Holder. I've heard of her accusing my peers of plagarism without evidence and asking about political affiliation of students, which is unacceptable ethically as a professor. I second another comment already posted that the content felt pseudo-intellectual, the course content specifically taught by Rothman felt like an endless stream of thought rather than demonstrating real application/relevance of concepts we learned through our lengthy readings and required videos. Really unfortunate as it would get in the way of the value of some of the concepts we were learning and prevented us from having class discussions that many felt would be more engaging and informative than her lectures. We also had many panels of guest speakers, but Rothman would ask them questions about the muppets or her own interests rather than give us time as students to ask and learn from some really interesting people. The two page required reflections for any absence, even those that were excused, was absolutely ridiculous. CESG has the potential to be a really amazing program and I believe it still is beneficial to join due to the experiences/concepts that can help with resumes and interviews, but Rothman limits that experience of learning for many. |

Weighted the class so A+ was only for over 100%. This was impossible because Rothman took off points from assignments for minimal reason and most external extra credit opportunities occurred during class. Missing class resulted in the assignment of a 2 page essay, regardless of reason. This includes excused absences such as sickness and family members dying. Taken word-for-word from her syllabus. Rothman assigned 4-6 pages of external reading before each class (which met twice a week) and gave out predatory pop quizzes based on said readings, including highly specific facts and statistics that were impractical to memorize. Content from readings occasionally applied to future classes. She is preachy. Class content felt sterile and pseudointellectual, evidenced by the guest speakers who come into class speaking and acting like real people as opposed to stuck up academics who teach it. |

Do not join CESG. I don't know a single person even among student ambassadors, who moderately enjoyed this class. Korey Rothman cannot teach, and the content of the course is impractical and useless. The pop quizzes are extremely specific, asking you to know quotes from 20 minute videos verbatim rather than concepts. She is an incredibly harsh grader and I cannot wait for this class to be over. She calls students of the same racial minority the same name. There are many other issues with this class that I will not go into. If there was a zero star option I would do it. |

I don't have much to say about her teaching skills, considering she doesn't teach at all. The entire class is just her yapping about absolutely nothing and then you leave after 75 minutes thinking about how nothing was added to the conversation. I do have much to say about her AWFUL personality. She is the rudest person I have ever met. She starts the year off hating everyone, you have to kiss her butt to even start to get on her good side. She is racist against white people, her own kind which makes no sense. Even Randolph and Holder hate her. She has presenters come every class so that she doesn't have to do anything. She's also a strict grader who makes impossibly specific pop quizzes. Do not join CESG because it sucks. |

She is not empathetic at all and low-key really judge-y. She is so unnecessarily harsh when grading. She took points off of something I didn't do and then when this other girl did it she also took points off. I do not get her. Also I just don't find her class helpful or necessary at all. Genuinely haven't learned anything. |
