Professor Cabrera is a very understanding and sweet person. The class meets once a week in person (Wednesday) and sometimes online on Monday. There are two weekly assignments to complete that relate to course readings, and both take around an hour each. However, her course is all over the place. In at least half of the classes, she needed help with her computer. There were some assignments not listed in the assignments tab but listed in the syllabus. There are two major assignments: a cross collaboration project with Chilean students and a group project at the end (which I did with a partner because the class was small). Both assignments are straightforward but long. There were some days we would do combined lectures with the students from Chile via Zoom. We still met in person for those classes but those honestly should have been done online. Overall, the class was easy but wouldn't recommend it due to the disorganized way in which it was ran.

I wanted to take this class because I thought it was interesting. During the first few weeks, the instructor spent a significant amount of time discussing AI, even though the course is focused on fathers’ parenting and child development. She often did not keep track of time and would spend an entire class period on a single slide. We weren't allowed to us AI at all! Not for grammar checks or outlines. She assigned pop-up assignments that were not listed in the syllabus and still counted them toward our grade. On one of the asynchronous days, an assignment was due, but it was never posted on Canvas as an official assignment, so it did not appear on our dashboard. Although the assignment was mentioned in the syllabus, it was still not uploaded in a way that allowed students to track it properly. The course also included a large amount of reading—often 30 minutes to an hour per reading, assigned twice a week—but these readings were rarely discussed or reflected on during class. Overall, the instructor seemed disorganized. While she had great energy and enthusiasm, her teaching structure and organization were lacking. Additionally, much of the class time was spent on open discussions. With a class of only about eight students, these discussions often took up the entire class period, with everyone sharing viewpoints, which limited structured instruction. I decided to drop the class after two weeks due to the lack of organization, inconsistent posting of assignments on Canvas, and frequent pop-up assignments that were sometimes unrelated to class content and due within just a few hours.
