The class is a capstone project class, so it's not a lot of learning based. Instead, you're designing and building your own embedded system from scratch with your team. The starting stages of the project were very challenging, but Professor Tiglao was incredibly helpful and walked us through many problems to fix them. I learned a lot about the design process of creating an embedded system project, from initial concept through implementation. The weekly progress reports and presentations were extremely valuable for going over our progress and receiving constructive feedback that helped keep our project on track. Overall, it was a very nice class. Professor Tiglao was verry supportive throughout the semester and I learned a lot about how real world engineering projects function and feel prepared for them.

Professor Tiglao was a great professor and cared a lot about his students in ENEB408A. We wanted to work with specialized hardware (Hailo-8L and HackRFs) and he was very supportive of the idea. He actually cares about the engineering behind your project and gives solid advice on how to fix implementation roadblocks. Definitely recommended if you actually want to learn cool stuff.

Professor Tiglao truly cares about his students and their success. In our capstone class he guided us through every step of the project and always made sure we understood what we were working toward. He explains things clearly and is patient when students need extra help. He encourages questions and gives useful feedback that helps us improve without feeling discouraged.

A lot happens in 408A, as you and a small group are challenged to design a novel system from scratch in one semester. Many groups faced challenges with teamwork, issues with technical implementation (as many people were designing HW and SW from scratch), or parts arrival, and it can be hard to meet deadlines. But part of learning is that Dr. Tiglao won't solve your problems for you; he will teach you to solve it yourself. At the time it was frustrating, but looking back, it has given me the skills needed to be resilient. 408A was tough due to the project we chose, but it was a course I took right as I needed to rapidly build the multidisciplinary skills needed to be a well-rounded engineer, including project and people management as well as technical design skills.
