If you learn best by doing practice problems, then this class will match that type of learning style. I believe if you took a 200 level Lin Alg course, either in HS or CC or elsewhere, you will be in a good place. You will learn more here, but having that background helps you catch on quickly. I didn't like the fact that we had to format everything (from HW to code) in Latex at the time, but I'm glad I'm much better at Latex now. It's used everywhere in academia from research papers to the way textbooks and homework's are written from the professor's side. Tldr; sometimes learning is hard and repetitive, but the content here is useful if you plan to go into research, ML, or other heavily data-science based roles. |

If you plan on taking a job in software or data science, this class is helpful. It provides the much needed context for classic LeetCode problems, and even though you won't need to complete those for class, having a primer on it through this class will make future revisions much easier when needed. I liked that it wasn't too intense and was very much "you get out what you put in." If you didn't want to learn, you didn't need to at your own future expense. If you did want to learn, the resources and support were here for you. |

It very smoothly, as a few weeks are dedicated to foundation-building context that should be straightforward if you took AP stat in high school. I liked that it wasn't purely "recite the answers in your blue-book theoretical," but included using tools like MatLab and Python (but maybe python was a different class taught by Prof. Tiglao) for simulations and projects. Yes, at the time it was time consuming, but I have been in interviews that specifically ask me if I know how to use statistical modeling tools and what languages and platforms I am proficient in, so this has been helpful. |

Intro to IoT was a good course, and I've heard from other cohorts that they have had similar experiences. It is a nice introduction to the CPSE major and was not too difficult. It was a needed balance for the other courses, which were much more challenging. However, this does not mean that Prof. Tiglao did not put a lot of effort into teaching it to be engaging. The labs were adapted based on the requests of our classmate's midway through the semester, which we all appreciated. Another positive note is that Prof. Tiglao is understanding and accommodating if a person experiences personal circumstances such as illness. |

A lot happens in 408A, as you and a small group are challenged to design a novel system from scratch in one semester. Many groups faced challenges with teamwork, issues with technical implementation (as many people were designing HW and SW from scratch), or parts arrival, and it can be hard to meet deadlines. But part of learning is that Dr. Tiglao won't solve your problems for you; he will teach you to solve it yourself. At the time it was frustrating, but looking back, it has given me the skills needed to be resilient. 408A was tough due to the project we chose, but it was a course I took right as I needed to rapidly build the multidisciplinary skills needed to be a well-rounded engineer, including project and people management as well as technical design skills. |

Dr. Tiglao is a professor who genuinely cares about his students. I have known that he has helped multiple students get internships or jobs, and these are connections he has made himself by networking with industry partners, other professors, and his own personal network. He also pushes students to learn about the academic publishing process in this class, from research project idea conception, to peer-reviews, to final publication. This is an incredible asset for students applying to grad programs and in the job search. Don't worry about grades, he is more focused on helping students learn, and as long as you are showing effort, and progress, and you building skills that will make you employable, grades are of secondary here, which is both encouraging and reduces stress. Thanks Prof Tiglao! |
