Extremely good professor, at the start of the semester it was a bit rough, but over the course of the semester, he took feedback, and adjusted his lectures accordingly. He provides a set of printed lecture notes every lecture, in addition to keeping them on ELMS, which helped with studying. There are lots of opportunities for extra credit in the class, and he does his best to make sure no one is left behind.

Professor Xin Zan is genuinely one of the best professors I have ever had. He emphasizes the importance of wanting to help you learn and is incredibly accommodating in doing so. He does this by giving out surveys every three or so topics and often improves his lectures or homeworks because of the responses. He wants everyone to succeed and provides so many extra credit opportunities including the surveys which are also extra credit. Additional homework questions and in class participation are also more extra credit opportunities. He understands the position of the students who are taking his class and makes the class less stressful. You will learn a lot in his class and you should honestly try and take other classes with him if you can as well like ENEE 476.

Dr. Zan is very understanding and accommodating as long as you talk to him. He genuinely cares about his students and about power electronics. He took surveys throughout the semester where students can provide anonymous feedback on his teaching, the homework, etc. which he shows the results for in class. I got off to a rough start submitting the first two homeworks late and did pretty poorly on the midterm which was open-note, but I did really well on the homeworks and made up for the rest with a lot of extra credit. I took the course because I thought power electronics could be interesting and I learned a lot. I'd say it was well worth it even if I don't pursue a career in power electronics.

He is a very good professor who cares about students and their learning. He also understands that being an engineering students can be tough so he makes the course as much of a GPA booster as he can. Extra credit opportunities, super fair grade weighting, and a built in curve. His lectures are super detailed with hand written notes including paper copies. He goes over all the necessary content, answers your questions, and constantly asks for your feedback. HW assignments have at the very least 1.5 week to be done if not more. The quizzes (for participation) and midterm are open note. Such a great professor and I highly recommend him and this course.

Dr. Zan is very nice and understanding when it comes to teaching students, especially since this course is very new. He's also really passionate, which shows through his in-depth explanations and teaching style. He always brought printed lecture notes to class and went over examples that helped a lot with homework, the midterm (which was open book and open note), and quizzes (which were participation-based, so no pressure if you get it wrong). He genuinely cares about students learning in his class and even gives one late homework submission for free. He also gave a ton of extra credit to help boost grades, and in general he presented material well and connected it to real life examples of power electronic applications. Dr. Zan a great professor and I highly recommend taking him if you are interested in power electronics!

He is a very good professor who takes time to explain the content, answer questions, and listen to student feedback. Brought in the printed lecture notes for students to take notes on directly, which was extremely helpful. Some examples gone over in class are directly correlated to the homework, exam, and quizzes (all open book, open note). Lots of extra credit was given.

Perfect balance of engagement and requirements. Actually cares about teaching, unlike a lot of EE profs. A young guy who still cares and is passionate. Asks for volunteers to answer questions in class (but never requires it). Every assignment has extra credit, so you can go deeper into the material if you want. Such a great professor!

Exams require SO much writing but are straightforward. He's extremely knowledgeable in the subject matter and teaches it well. Would strongly suggest this course.

As others have said, professor Mayergoyz is arguably one of the best professors in the department. He inspires me to become a professor. Professor Mayergoyz learns every student by name, and often invites students to come up to the chalkboard when they have questions during the lecture, he starts by thanking his "dear students" for coming to the lecture. In this way, professor Mayergoyz makes his relationship with the class very personal. He is extremely intelligent and goes very in-depth in explaining or deriving equations and concepts. For senior or junior EE students, I would 100% recommend this course as a refresher of ENEE205, ENEE222, ENEE303 and ENEE313, in fact you might actually learn the right way about those topics as professor Mayergoyz is a very talented educator. Overall I have a deep respect for professor Mayergoyz and would recommend everyone take a course with him during their time at UMD.
