This professor is truly outstanding, one of the best I’ve had in college. His teaching style is incredibly engaging, and he has a natural, almost rhythmic way of explaining complex topics. I took this course in Spring 2025, which I believe was the first time it was being offered, so there were a few bumps along the way. That said, the professor did an exceptional job sharing his knowledge and made a genuine effort to support students throughout the semester. I highly recommend taking any course with him, he’s incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about what he teaches. That said, this was hands-down one of the hardest classes I’ve taken in my college career (I’m a senior). We had two midterms, a final exam, and around 10 homework assignments. The first midterm wasn’t too bad, likely because it was early in the semester and the content was relatively manageable. But things became significantly more challenging after the second midterm, especially if you hadn’t taken quantum mechanics before. The average score dropped to around 45–55%, despite the professor’s best efforts to explain the material. The final exam was non-cumulative and, thankfully, more reasonable. The professor clearly took into account how much students were struggling and gave us some breathing room. As for the homework… easily the most time-consuming assignments I’ve done in four years of college. Each one took me 3–4 days to complete and averaged around 24 handwritten pages on my iPad (and yes, my handwriting is large but still). Overall, the class was okay. I’m on the fence about recommending it. If you’re not deeply interested in the subject, I’d probably advise against taking it. However, if you’re up for a serious challenge and enjoy digging into tough material, it could be worth it. One last thing, grading was generous in the end. I was expecting a D+ going into the final. Still, the professor implemented a very generous curve and offered an optional paper worth up to 25 midterm points (after the class performed poorly on the second exam). That paper and curve made a huge difference, and I ended up with a B+ in the course. |

Sometimes it was hard to tell what was going on in this class, but we all made it through together. Gomez is hilarious and incredibly understanding, even offering an extra credit assignment to make up for low(ish) midterm averages. He would consistently go over the class time to finish his thought and had tendency to ramble or go on tangents, but his lectures were always enjoyable and engaging. |
