Olmert is great! Materials were great since they weren’t the usual things you’d think you’d have in an English course. Can get a bit disorganized throughout the semester, the class is on facebook not canvas and we never actually got a syllabus but he is very understanding, and made a lot of adjustments of due dates based on our needs. He is a bit sweary and can get loud so beware of that but he has good humor and wants everyone to pass. He gave us his phone number and told us to call him whenever haha, I recommend.

Olmert is an enthusiastic, interesting professor. He definitely does not teach in the orthodox way, but that should not discourage you. Just a few disclaimers: he does not use an ELMS page, and he does not really have an organizational structure for his course. If these points bother you too much, then you might not like the course, but if you can bare with those changes, his class can be enjoyable. There are not many assignments throughout the semester, so when you do have assignments, they require you to study and think about them a bit. I think he really wants you to take away something from the course besides its academic content.

Olmert is an amazing dude! He is very passionate about what he teaches and makes class fun and engaging. He genuinely cares about what his students get out of the course and is always asking us what he can do to help us learn better. Very easy to talk to and casual. His class is very flexible, and he often moved around deadlines to accommodate what worked best for us. He makes the plays and poems and stories we read and watch really interesting! The only work you have to do is a few essays throughout the semester. The only reason he doesn't get 5-stars is because his very casual, unstructured class might not appeal to some people that thrive in a much more structured environment with hard set schedules and deadlines.

It blows my mind how some professors were hired here at Maryland. Kaouk is only a few years older than I, in grad school, and recycles his theories and lectures from his classes. He has no structure and often comes into class asking what we want to do today, then gets disappointed when nobody brings up a topic of discussion. He is also extremely unreliable and has not shown up to 2 schedule meetings as well as his regular study hours. The class is all reading. Some plays are good some not so good but that's an English class for you. There are 2 papers, quizzes, a final, and class participation. The quizzes are reading quizzes and are usually pretty easy. Class participation is 10% of your grade and if you speak you'll be fine. For the paper, however, if you do it the assignment wrong the first time he will allow you to do it again and get weeks to do it. However, if you're like me and you do the assignment CORRECTLY but still get a B-, those who are told to do the paper again can still get an A, while I cannot. Explain that one to me... Overall, the only benefit from the class was that class participation was a big part of the grade. Most classes, it's nonexistent or only 5% at least. Otherwise, Kaouk is an unprofessional and weak professor. I would not take his class again.

He's an awesome professor! The plays you read are actually really interesting. I took this class because it was the only one I could get into at the last minute and I actually enjoyed this class the most. There is so much extra credit that its hard not to get an A.

Great teacher! He makes you actually enjoy the assigned plays and coming to class. Lectures are always interesting. Papers and exams are graded by TAs. None of the work is very hard. Gives a ridiculous amount of really easy extra credit, so the only way you can fail is if you don't even try.
