I took ENGL295 last Spring with Nat. The class was great and this professor was great. Generous and accommodating grader. A significant amount of creative liberty is granted for the projects, both individual and group-based. Class is discussion heavy but the discussions are fun and exciting. Despite the class being almost 3 hours long, the class did not feel boring or sloggy. Can be a little disorganized or chaotic at times but it was her first time teaching that class and she manages to set it back on the rails fairly smoothly and quickly. Highly recommend.

I took ENGL295 for one of my gen ed credits with Natalie. This was her first time teaching this course, but all things considered it was a good experience. Our assignments consisted of discussion board posts, short essays, and digital story projects. Pros: - Lively discussions: A portion of our class was about discussing readings and other digital storytelling methods. These discussions were pretty insightful, and I would say I learned something from all of them. - Fun projects: One of our projects involved us making a digital story. We were given plenty of freedom in choosing how our story went and presented it to the class. Another project involved us creating remixes. I enjoyed being able to have a lot of freedom in our expression. - Fair grading: As long as you completed the discussion posts and produced something that took some thought and effort for the projects, you are getting an A. This class is very stress free. Cons: - Occasionally unequipped: Some class sessions did not go to plan. For example, we had a class where a certain software was not functioning as expected so we couldn't fulfill the assignment that day. However, Nat managed the course expectations fine despite this and found other solutions that worked. I don't anticipate this being much of a deal if she teaches this class again. Overall, this class was a good part of my education and an actually fun and interesting gen ed. I would highly recommend taking ENGL295 with Natalie.

HALT: TAKE HER!! Nat is a sweetheart!! If you get to take her please do, she's very down to earth and is so caring towards her students. Super light grader and very understanding. She's also very silly, we had a class on Oculus headsets and she let us draw penises and play Beat Saber, 10/10.

Honestly a super awesome teacher and very invested in our learning and making the class entertaining. A good class to come to after stressful assignments. First and only class at UMD where I got to talk about supernatural mpreg in a class.

One of the sweetest most charismatic professors at UMD, but the syllabus wasn't followed and the structure of the class was confusing. Most of the work we did wasn't graded until our final portfolio at the end so no one knew what their grade would end up being. Attendance and participation factor heavily into the final grade, so plan to show up if you're taking this class.

Other reviews pretty much sum it up. Super friendly and personable person, but assignment instructions were vague and the syllabus was not followed at all. Furthermore nothing in my class ever got graded… my grade has been listed as “N/A” for the whole semester and I honestly have no clue what grade I’m going to receive at the end.
