ENME431 Expecting an A- Anonymous 05/21/2025 |
Overall a decent professor. The class has about 10 homework assignments, 2 midterms, and a final. All the assignments are similar in difficulty, and the exams match the homework pretty well. There are lectures twice a week which aren't technically mandatory, but he sometimes takes attendance and will give extra points to people who show up more often. Pros: - All assignments (including midterms and the final) are done at home and are open book, open note, open everything. - All lectures are recorded and posted to ELMS - Homeworks tend to match exams pretty well - He grades fast, and usually has homeworks and exams returned within 1 - 2 days. Cons: - The content is interesting but professor Massoud is just kind of a boring lecturer. You can tell he loves what he does, but he the lectures can seem scattered and hard to follow. - There are no office hours. He always stays after class to answer questions and will answer emails, but there is no designated office hours which would have been very nice. - Generally a fair grader, but sometimes doesn't leave the best feedback, or gives less partial credit than I would have liked. All in all a decent class that's pretty straightforward considering the exams are open book. Professor Massoud is decent but not the greatest. If you are interested in the class don't be deterred by him, but don't be too excited either. |

The professor is nice and responds to emails pretty fast even at odd hours. There's 1 HW assignment each week (20%), 2 midterm exams (each 20%), and 1 final exam (40%). The grading is very forgiving: there's a lot of partial credit even if you get the question wrong, as long as you put down some equations you're basically guaranteed some points. All three exams are entirely open-note and at home with a similar format to the homework. Attendance is not mandatory but highly encouraged as the lectures are pretty helpful and the professor usually gives the answer to one of the homework questions in class. Overall great course even if you're not super interested in nuclear engineering (I took it as an out-of-major elective for aerospace engineering). |

Very nice man, VERY smart and knows a lot about nuclear engineering (went to MIT and worked at MPR). Tests became progressively easier as he learned that the material was really hard for us. |
