Prerequisite: CHEM131 and CHEM132. And BSCI170 and BSCI171; or BSCI105. Credit only granted for: ENST432 or ENST499M. Formerly: ENST499M. Microorganisms are everywhere and mediate many of the processes that we observe everyday. These organisms are the unseen catalysts for numerous industrial processes and are critical to many emerging technologies and novel products. Environmental microbiologists ask: How do microorganisms in the environment benefit society? This course will answer this question by examining microbes in bioremediation, food safety, climate change, and biotechnology.
