While there are certainly ups and downs for the course, as a whole it is simply not worth the time and failed to deliver. The academic content is pretty cool for the most part, with interesting stories and perspectives presented nicely. I really loved the case studies since they were actually really fun to be a part of in class. That being said, the course structure is severely lacking and poorly managed, featuring some of the slowest grading I've ever seen (often to the point of 3-4 weeks for a single assignment) and far too much rambling and fluff during lectures which made it difficult to stay engaged in the lengthy three-hour night classes. Overall, I would not recommend this class. I expected better from the course description. |

This course was really stupid and definitely not worth taking. PJ himself is pretty cool, so he may be worth it for a different seminar, but absolutely not this one. Writing assignments were explained poorly and graded too late to apply feedback, participation was graded extremely harshly, and the lectures were just Paul rambling on and on for hours about useless and frankly hard to understand material - I genuinely couldn't tell you anything I actually learned in this class. The "strategy methods" we learned were just pretty obvious facts masked with overly confusing language, we barely learned anything relating to AI technology, and I couldn't tell you what we went over during the innovation power section because I had mentally checked out of the class at that point. Unless you are super interested in writing about how the US can beat China in AI, don't bother with this class. |
