I highly recommend taking this course with Professor Ibrahimi, although I am not sure if she is still with UMD. Professor Ibrahimi is an excellent teacher. The course was challenging for me, especially because I am not a family science major, and the content was very new to me. However, she did a great job of explaining things. Her class was engaging, and her assignments were very useful. The only thing I would say is to make sure you prepare for the tests; she asks all students to close other browsers, and she proctors the test. Overall, Professor Ibrahimi is great and also a kind and understanding person. |

Professor Yumiseva is a very nice professor, but her lectures are boring as she often reads off slides and shares personal stories about her daughter all the time, which can get annoying. People barely showed up to class, but in-class assignments occasionally happen so GO TO CLASS! At times she is flexible about letting you complete the assignments, and still turn them in for credit. The class is straightforward with three non-cumulative exams, it is relatively easy enough if you study and attend class. |

I took the Families and Global Health course with Professor Ibrahimi, and I can confidently say that she was by far the best professor I have ever had. The course content was rich, yet she presented lectures in an understandable way and made learning engaging and fun. I heard the graduate TAs assigned to to her for the other course on research methods weren't punctual, but our TA was great and very helpful. I would say I really enjoyed this course! As a senior, I feel that this course taught me more than I have learned in many other courses during my four years at UMD. I especially loved how knowledgeable the Professor Ibrahimi was about other countries. Thank you, Professor, for doing such a great job teaching this course! |

What an interesting class. The class overall talked about both families and public health, but more public health. I could connect my learning to previous learning and it was so reinforcing. There were quizzes that were open note, lectures that were recorded, and a few assignments/discussions. We had a larger project where we interviewed a classmate and talked about our backgrounds. Great if you get a great partner!! Dr. Maring provides great and supportive feedback. The class will be challenging if you do not watch the videos, especially because the quizzes are based on them. The textbook/book wasn’t necessary in my opinion. Would take again & would take another class with Dr. Maring! |

I'm taking the asynchronous version of this class during the summer. It bugs me that all she does in the lecture videos are read from her pre-written notes and go through some slides. The course doesn't seem well prepared. There are a lot of assignments that are due every day and the instructions given are not clear enough. Unless you have no other choice, I recommend not to take this class with Dr. Maring, and not to take this class in general in the summer. I don't know how Dr. Maring expects students to read two entire books AND watch all her lecture videos, all while doing at least two assignments per day and interacting with other students for almost 15 days. |
