Regina Ianozi
GERM356 Expecting a B+ Anonymous 05/13/2022 |
Regina is an amazing teacher, she caters to her students throughout the entire semester and clearly understands when their workload is too much. She is very flexible with assignments and she works to ensure that all her students are engaged within the classroom. I really love how sometimes she'll have class outside because otherwise we're stuck in the dark basement of Jimenez. Regina does ask a lot of her students but it's work that's doable when you're not procrastinating or pushing to the side. I personally love how she assigns worksheets and homework about the next lecture because it ensures that I come to class prepared to discuss the topic of the day. Her standards are clearly set in stone and she'll of course remind you of them if you have any questions. In the end, Regina is looking for students who put in the work and come to class ready to participate. Learning a second (third, fourth, etc.) language is extremely difficult for some students but Regina's classroom setting and structure ensures that a hardworking student who is actively trying to learn the material will easily pass the class with a deeper understanding of the German language (& professions in the case of GERM356). |

I have had Professor Ianozi (Regina) for the duration of my time at the University of Maryland (three years). I started as a German major in GERM204 with Professor Ianozi. Since then, she has left a profound impact on my college experience (as an instructor for multiple classes and an academic advisor). Professor Ianozi is kind, compassionate, and welcoming. Every semester, she highlights the importance of balancing academic/work life and personal life to her students, and this carries out into the way she conducts her courses. Professor Ianozi is talented at engaging students and making class time enjoyable. Learning a foreign language can be a daunting (and humbling) experience. Professor Ianozi creates a good balance of pushing her students outside of their comfort zones, but maintaining a safe space. Mistakes are not only acceptable, but encouraged. Professor Ianozi has a passion for educating, but tends to (purposefully) steer away from "traditional" methods such as harsh exams, impossible quizzes, and rigid assignments. These measures of progress are necessary and standard for university-level courses, but Professor Ianozi manages to intertwine less conventional approaches that emphasize the value of experiential learning (examples include conversational role-plays, self-evaluation practices, and so on). Some may not favor the autonomy Professor Ianozi offers her students. However, most find it highly rewarding (and not too difficult to succeed). Professor Ianozi is always available to provide extra help. She will go the extra mile to assist her students, IF they take the initiative. Like the majority of college classes, what you get out of Professor Ianozi's courses will be exactly what you put in. If you have a passion for foreign language, or even just some level of curiosity, I would highly recommend you take Professor Ianozi. |
