Selected Topics in Germanic Studies; Readings in Yiddish, Literature and Culture

This is a Big Ten Academic Alliance Course-Share Course. Crosslisting with JWST319O. This course provides students with a unique chance to improve their Yiddish speaking, reading, and writing skills. In addition to touching on key grammar points, we explore texts written by classic Yiddish authors such as Sholem Aleichem, S.Y. Abramovitsch, I.L. Peretz, I.B. Singer, and contemporary. The final grade will be determined according to class participation, short essays, and a presentation. This course requires proficiency in a foreign language.
