Allison Berland GVPT280 Expecting an A+ ashmoney 05/04/2024	overall: class is very simple. you have 2 short papers to write & 1 larger paper that isn't even that bad, accompanied with 2 online quizzes. lectures are fine, but not necessary to attend. i attended because i like the routine of going to class. discussion sections were a bit boring, but also easy & attendance was taken so go. highly recommend this class to anybody. recommendations/heads up: -start thinking about your paper topics early & have your TA approve them just so that you know you're on the right track. -you don't have to do the readings/get the textbook. Professor Berland does a great job explaining the readings in class. the papers are also independent to the readings, so you get to write about topics you want.
Allison Berland GVPT280 Expecting an A+ edenw29 12/21/2023	Class was so boring and you'll learn absolutely nothing but Berland makes it so easy to get an A. The class is 3 papers and 2 exams that are open note and online. Each paper gets harder but overall they're not very difficult to do well on. She gives you like 3 freebies to miss discussion section before you participations starts to go down, which I definitely took advantage of
Marcus Johnson GVPT280 Expecting an A Anonymous 01/18/2023	This class had a really weird grading scale in which if everything is completed on time, you get a B in the class (no matter how well you do on the assignment). This is fine, but I was getting A's on every assignment and still had a max grade of a B unless I did 2 unrelated EC assignments. I wouldn't take another class with this grading scale. Professor Johnson was very nice, and clearly knowledgable about the subject. If the class didn't have this weird grading scale I would take it again, but I did not like labor based grading, so I will be avoiding any classes that use it in the future.

Super kind, very accommodating, and he makes an effort to get to know everyone, even if there's a lot of people in the class (which there is for us lol). Lectures are engaging and the workload isn't heavy at all - it's a few discussion posts (you post and respond to one other person), usually one almost every week, and two problem sets, one as a midterm and one as a final. He uses labor-based grading, so as long as you do everything he asks for, you get a guaranteed B, and there are opportunities to complete extra assignments and secure an A. The work itself isn't hard at all. I kind of want to gatekeep Prof Johnson too but take his classes!!! It's worth it!
