Professor Johnson is an amazing professor! He is genuine and understands the life of college students when you take his class. What I really enjoy about his class is that you decide what grade you want based off the work you put in. He's also really easy to reach out to and wants you to succeed with whatever career path you take. Definitely would recommend him for any of his classes. |

If I could give more than 5 stars, I would. The most accommodating, warm, and thoughtful professor that I have had here at UMD. Learned so much from him, its clear he genuinely cares about his students. He established a policy of labor-based grading for this class; not sure if he's continuing with it for all of his classes, but it took the stress and pressure off. You basically decide which extra assignments you want to do to boost your grade. Cannot recommend him enough. |

This class had a really weird grading scale in which if everything is completed on time, you get a B in the class (no matter how well you do on the assignment). This is fine, but I was getting A's on every assignment and still had a max grade of a B unless I did 2 unrelated EC assignments. I wouldn't take another class with this grading scale. Professor Johnson was very nice, and clearly knowledgable about the subject. If the class didn't have this weird grading scale I would take it again, but I did not like labor based grading, so I will be avoiding any classes that use it in the future. |

Prof Johnson is incredible. Super kind, very accommodating, and he makes an effort to get to know everyone, even if there's a lot of people in the class (which there is for us lol). Lectures are engaging and the workload isn't heavy at all - it's a few discussion posts (you post and respond to one other person), usually one almost every week, and two problem sets, one as a midterm and one as a final. He uses labor-based grading, so as long as you do everything he asks for, you get a guaranteed B, and there are opportunities to complete extra assignments and secure an A. The work itself isn't hard at all. I kind of want to gatekeep Prof Johnson too but take his classes!!! It's worth it! |

Professor Johnson is GREAT! Super nice and lectures are very inclusive and engaging. In 459C the workload was not heavy, we had an option between 4 essays throughout the semester or 2 essays and a final research paper. Prof. J can be disorganized at times though. Super interesting if you are into the topic of race and ethnicity outside an American context and on top of that he's super understanding and knowledgable! I'd gatekeep him if I could but I thought I'd throw yall a bone Take him! |
